Biography of Cagub Biodata Basuki Tjahaja Purnama aka Ahok 17th Jakarta Governor
Ir. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, MM (EYD: Basuki Cahaya Purnama, Chinese name: Zhōng Wànxué / 鍾 萬 學, born in Manggar, East Belitung, June 29, 1966, age 49 years), or best known as Hakka Ahok (阿 學), is Governor DKI Jakarta which has been serving since 19 November 2014.
On November 14, 2014, he was officially announced to be the Governor of DKI Jakarta substitute Joko Widodo, through a special plenary meeting at the Parliament Building of DKI Jakarta. Basuki was officially inaugurated as Governor of DKI Jakarta by President Joko Widodo on 19 November 2014 at the State Palace, having previously served as Governor of Duties from 16 October to 19 November 2014.
Purnama is an Indonesian citizen of ethnic Chinese and the first Protestant Christian who became Governor of DKI Jakarta. Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta was once held by a Catholic Christian, Henk Ngantung (Governor of DKI Jakarta period 1964-1965).
Basuki had served as Vice Governor of DKI from 2012-2014 accompanying Joko Widodo as Governor. Previously Basuki was a member of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) 2009-2014 period from Golkar Party but resigned in 2012 after running for Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta for Pemilukada 2012. He also served as East Belitung Regent for 2005-2006 period. He is the first Chinese to become Regent of East Belitung Regency.
